Vakôna Forest Lodge is a large and charming accommodation located about 140 km from the Malagasy capital city, and accessible after a three and a half hour drive. You are only a few minutes from Andasibe village, the "Indri (lemurs) Reserve" (Analamazoatra), and the National Park of Mantadia.
At an altitude of 900 m, just before the mounts of Mandraka, Vakôna Forest Lodge is located at the edge of national parks such as Mantadia and Analamazoatra Nature Reserve. The humid tropical primary forest of this Eastern area is undeniably the thickest and the most wooded of the island, making it a unique jewel.
In the area, you can see varieties of lemurs, observe endemic fauna and flora, and take a hike in the rainforest. You can reveal the quiet or adventurous side of your personality here. Many guests become friends and come back again and again. The indri song is a real show!
Original and alive, this restaurant with rich menu cards mixing French, Chinese and of course, Malagasy cuisine will satisfy a gourmet's palate.
Hiking in the forest is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the region.
The private reserve of Vakôna leads you around a lake where 40 crocodiles live freely. You will meet Kovu and Nala, two fosa (endemic carnivores of Madagascar, predators of lemurs), admire parrots, ostriches and aquatic birds, shiver at the sight of boas, and scratch the neck of tortoises.
Situated in the middle of the primary forest, the reserve sometimes has the privilege of being frequented by groups of wild lemurs, flown over by parrots, and visited by a variety of birds that nest here.
Listen to your senses and search for chameleons, uroplates, lemurs, babakoto, crab spiders and frogs specific to Madagascar. And above all, don't miss the chance to see the biggest lemur, indris.
Adventurous travellers often discover that exploring the fauna and flora surrounding the village, in the reserve or in the National Park of Mantadia, can be more pleasant by canoe. Try a canoe tour if you are so inclined (available upon request for small groups).
